Cloud Native Convergence for Industrial IoT: AI, Digital Twins, Federated Learning, and Blockchain in Additive Manufacturing

Industrial IoT integrates connected systems, smart devices, and data-driven architectures to improve efficiency and reliability in modern manufacturing environments. Additive manufacturing, particularly fused deposition modeling (FDM), benefits from this integration through enhanced monitoring and automated fault detection. This talk presents the application of Cloud Native paradigms to strengthen additive manufacturing processes by combining digital twin frameworks, federated learning systems, and blockchain-based trust mechanisms. Digital twins are employed to provide real-time visibility into 3D printing processes, while federated mechanisms enable distributed fault detection without requiring raw data transfer across nodes. Blockchain-inspired methods further enhance interoperability and ensure transparency across manufacturing stakeholders. Together, these convergence technologies improve reliability, scalability, and trust in IoT-enabled smart factories. Finally, current challenges and future research directions are discussed, highlighting how Cloud Native convergence supports ongoing advances in Industry 4.0 and creates pathways toward the sustainable, human-centric vision of Industry 5.0.
