The very first SOSCON was held in South Korea in 2014, with the goal of increasing open source awareness among the local tech community. Since then, SOSCON has spread to other Samsung Global Research Centers that now host the event annually within their own localities. The Philippines was added to the global SOSCON roster in 2022, joining India (2020) and Russia (2021).
For the inaugural run, SOSCON PH 2022 (Bukás para sa Bukas) painted the local open source landscape and how it has been used across different sectors of Filipino society.
SOSCON PH 2023 (Inspiring Action through Open Source) focused on the intersection of Data Intelligence and the use of open source software to power data analytics, engineering, and visualization to create actionable insights that spur action.
Last year, SOSCON PH 2024 (Weaving Tomorrow's Techscape) centered on open source as an engine of collaboration and progress, and illustrated how Filipinos can take advantage of it to weave tomorrow’s techscape.
